Which spice combinations can you use for onion seasoning?

  • The first combination consists of: cumin, salt and pepper and coriander.
  • The second combination consists of: thyme and pepper and salt
  • The third combination consists of: chives, parsley, oregano and salt and pepper.

Other herbs, which also go well with onions, are rosemary and sage.

The amounts you use are really up to your own taste and insight. Try adding a little spice to your onions at a time and then taste. Is it tasty or should a little more of an herb be added? Then taste again, until you like it.

Coriander, rosemary and sage have a strong distinct taste, so add these herbs little by little to the onions. And of course you have to keep tasting until it is completely to your liking.

What are you going to do in the kitchen?

  • Place a rack in the top third of the oven and preheat the oven to 180 degrees.
  • Cut the onions in half or cut off the top of each onion, leaving most of the skin on the onion.
  • Arrange the onions in a square baking dish or rimmed baking pan.
  • Drizzle the olive oil over the onions. Place a thin pat of butter on each onion.
  • Sprinkle generously with salt and pepper and top with a sprig of rosemary or thyme.
  • Bake for 25 minutes until almost cooked through.
  • Increase the oven temperature to 200 degrees and bake for another 15 to 20 minutes until the onions are cooked through and the top is browned.
