And if your mozzarella is no longer in its juice, don’t panic. You can cut your ball into slices and put them in the freezer for a few minutes on parchment paper. Once the slices have hardened, simply wrap them in a freezer bag and place them back in the freezer.
How long can you keep mozzarella in the freezer?
In the refrigerator, your sealed bag will only keep for one to two weeks and if it has been opened, it must be consumed within 48 hours.
If you put it in the freezer, however, mozzarella can keep for up to six months. Practical, right?
How to thaw mozzarella?
To thaw the holy grail of Italian cheese, you better anticipate your move. In order not to alter its taste, take it out of the freezer a few hours before use and place it in your refrigerator to avoid breaking the cold chain.
Above all, avoid defrosting in the microwave, which would alter its texture too much.
