Who loves and doesn’t love garlic? I can hardly imagine it myself. Garlic is such a fine seasoning in many dishes. Especially, when you are going to roast garlic. But how to roast garlic?

Remove the outer skin of the bulb and cut off the tops of the cloves. Make sure they stay together. Put the garlic bulb in aluminum foil with oil and other herbs. Now cook the garlic for an hour.

Garlic is of course also the main ingredient of garlic sauce, delicious as a dipping sauce or on your pizza, for example. We have also written a blog about making garlic; ” How to Make Garlic Sauce? Multiple Variations ‘ describes 7 ways to make tasty garlic sauce.

Roasting garlic

Roasting or roasting garlic is basically the same thing! We can roast or roast when the garlic is still in the bulb, as unpeeled garlic cloves and peeled garlic cloves. It doesn’t matter how you roast the garlic, because the taste remains the same. Only peeled garlic is more likely to burn. In addition, it is more fun to roast a whole garlic bulb in, for example, the oven or on the bbq.

Roasting slowly cooks the garlic in its own moisture. This makes the taste very soft, velvety soft. The garlic itself is also very soft, you can spread it on a piece of baguette, as it were. So don’t squeeze too hard or you’ll squeeze it out. Garlic cooked too quickly will become hard. This one has dried out.

The following explains how and in what ways you can roast garlic, starting with the barbecue.

Garlic Roast BBQ

You can roast the garlic in two ways, namely:

  1. put on the grid
  2. wrap in aluminum foil

Both methods work well, only if you wrap it in aluminum foil you can add more seasonings.

On The Grid

When you choose this, you are ready in no time. What you need to do is cut off the top of the garlic bulb, that’s it.

Then place the garlic bulb on the bbq in a place with indirect heat. If you put the garlic on the hot coals it will burn. The garlic cooks well at a temperature of about 130 degrees.

Close the lid of the bbq and now it’s a matter of waiting, waiting for an hour. The garlic is cooked when it is very soft. You can feel this by poking a clove with a toothpick.

Remove the garlic from the bbq and sprinkle with oil and herbs and/or spread it on your dish. Enjoy your meal.

In Aluminum Foil

Wrapping in aluminum foil gives you more freedom to add other flavors to it. What you do is the following.

Remove the outer skin of the garlic, making sure that the cloves remain attached to the bottom. The toes now have a little more space between them.

Then cut off the top of the cloves with a sharp knife and place the bulb on a piece of aluminum foil. Drizzle the garlic with a little olive oil and add spices if necessary. Think of a sprig of rosemary or thyme. Or add the spices you like. You can always add salt and pepper.

Now close the aluminum foil and place the package on the grid. Make sure it is in a place that is neither too hot nor too cool. So no direct heat and close the lid. Now cook the garlic for an hour and it’s ready. If the garlic is soft, then the taste is good too.

Roast Garlic in Oven

Roasting garlic in the oven has many similarities with roasting on the BBQ. Only the popping in the oven can also be done in the winter! You proceed as follows.

Remove the outer skin again, but leave the cloves attached to each other. Cut off the top of the cloves and place on a sheet of aluminum foil.

Add a little oil and herbs you like, such as thyme or rosemary. You can always admit salt and pepper. Close the package and place it on the baking tray or rack in the oven that has been preheated to 160 degrees. The temperature is relatively low because we want to let it cook slowly in its own moisture.

Check after an hour if it is ready. The garlic should be soft. You can also check this by poking a clove with a toothpick.

Remove from the oven, open the aluminum foil and serve on the table in the foil. enjoy your meal.

You can also roast peeled and unpeeled garlic cloves in the oven. Place the unpeeled clove loose on the baking tray, and wrap the peeled clove in aluminum foil with oil and, for example, rosemary or thyme. Roasting in this case takes about 45 minutes.

Garlic Roast Airfryer

You can roast garlic bulbs very well in the airfryer, and it goes quickly too. How do you proceed?

Remove the outer leaves of the garlic bulb. The toes remain attached to each other. Drizzle the garlic with a little oil and salt.

Now place the entire bulb in the airfryer that you have heated at 160 degrees. It takes about 15 minutes and then they are done. You can test this by poking one of the cloves with a toothpick.

Remove the bulbs from the airfryer and serve on a platter or spread on your baguette.

You can also wrap it in aluminum foil, then remove the top of the cloves and place the bulb on a sheet of foil. Sprinkle the bulb with oil and optional herbs such as thyme and rosemary. Also add a little salt and close the package.

Now roast the bulbs for 10 minutes at 160 degrees. Your roasted garlic is now cooked.

Garlic Roast Microwave

Popping in the microwave is faster but not my preference. It is precisely because of the slow cooking that a lot of flavors are released. This is less when popping in the microwave. But yes, sometimes you are just short of time and then the microwave is a godsend.

Also now remove the outer skin of the garlic bulb and cut off the tops of the cloves. Make sure the toes stay together.

Place the bulb in a microwave dish and add a tablespoon of water. Drizzle the bulb with a little oil. Now cover the bowl and place it in the microwave.

Set the microwave to half power and the time to 4 minutes. Check after 4 minutes if the garlic is soft. You can test this by poking one of the cloves with a toothpick. If it’s soft, it’s fine, if not, add another minute.

This is how you quickly make roasted garlic in the microwave.

Garlic Roast Pan

You can also roast a whole garlic bulb in the pan. Place the pan on medium heat.

Cut off the top of the garlic cloves and place the bulb in the pan without oil, otherwise, you will be frying.

Now roast the garlic for 10-15 minutes. The cooking will be different from the oven or airfryer. The entire bulb is heated in the oven or airfryer. In the pan only the bottom of the bulb. So make sure it doesn’t burn and the garlic is cooked when you take it off the heat.

This was the last way of roasting garlic. Make your choice and get started. Good luck!
