How to make your own noodles? Yes, And Tasty Too!

How to make your own noodles? Bami is a long wheat noodles that we know from Chinese cuisine. It is easy to prepare noodles, boil for a few minutes in water and the noodles are ready. However, noodles are eaten with many other ingredients such as vegetables that you also have to prepare, and herbs of course. How do you do that, make noodles herbs yourself?
Bami spices are:
- salt
- pepper
- ginger powder
- cumin
- turmeric
- nutmeg
- curry
- chili powder
- clove
- cardamom
- Cinnamon
- coriander (dried)
- Laos
Bami is to the Chinese what potatoes are to the Dutch kitchen. You have to serve other ingredients and dishes with it or make a wok dish out of it. In addition, the noodles themselves have little taste, they are wheat. We season the noodles with herbs, spices and other seasonings. With the right choice and quantities you can make delicious noodles.
Bami Spices Making
Making noodles yourself is easy once you know which spice combinations you can use and which are tasty. The quantities are at your discretion, because everyone has their own taste. For example, I like a lot of herbs and nice and spicy.
Add the herbs in small amounts and taste each time to see if your dish is already seasoned. Not yet seasoned, add more spices and taste again. Keep doing this until it feels good for you.
But which herbs are good to combine? Below is an overview of 4 noodles spice mix combinations. Your own taste preference determines the amounts you use.
- cumin, coriander, paprika, pepper, anise, cinnamon, salt, ginger.
- turmeric, garlic, ginger, cumin seed, anise, cayenne pepper, cinnamon, salt, curry, coriander.
- coriander, salt, garlic, turmeric, cumin seeds, ginger, fried onions.
- coriander, cumin, garlic, salt, ginger, cinnamon, turmeric, pepper.
While the noodles are cooking, I usually start by frying a chopped onion, garlic, a (semi) red pepper and ginger in the wok. Then the rest of the ingredients go into the wok. Almost at the end of the stir-frying, the herbs go into the wok and the tasting begins to flavor the dish.
If you find it difficult to choose, make one of these spice combinations and you put a delicious dish on the table:
- 1/2 tsp. chili powder
- 2 tsp. cumin powder
- 1 tsp. turmeric
- 1 tsp. ginger powder
- 1 tsp. coriander powder
Or you can also use this:
- 2 tsp. garlic powder
- 2 tsp. ginger powder
- 1 tsp. cumin powder
- 1 tsp. chili powder
- 1 tsp. coriander powder
- 1 tsp. lemongrass
- 1 tsp. turmeric
But noodles are not only flavored with herbs. There are many other seasonings that are tasty in addition to the herbs. The above lists not only include herbs, but also other seasonings.
Homemade Bami Herbs
You can season the noodles yourself, but often other seasonings are also used in combination with the noodles spices. Think about:
- anise
- lemongrass
- chinese five spice powder with anise seed, fennel seed, cinnamon, pepper and cloves
- ginger
- soy sauce manis
- garlic
- coconut milk
- coriander (fresh)
- lime
- Red pepper
- coin
- sambal
- Sesame seed
- sesame oil
- Soy sauce
- onion or ready-made fried onions
Everyone has their own taste preferences. For example, coriander is not my favorite herb. I’m not crazy about anise either, but maybe you are. That is why cooking is also trying. Look in the list above for three seasonings that you like and mix them in small amounts with the noodles and taste. Again keep tasting to see if your noodles are flavoured.
You give your noodles its own taste by adding specific ingredients to your dish:
- Replace the salt by adding soy sauce
- Sambal and/or red pepper add spice to your dish
- Ketjap manis is for the sweet
- Half a squeezed lime is for the sour
- Anise and mint give a fresh taste to your noodles dish
- Coconut milk provides the real Asian taste
- And you use roasted sesame seed for the tasty and the surprise in your noodles
I will definitely add these flavor enhancers to the noodles, it makes your dish extra tasty.
Nasi Bami Herbs
Bami or nasi, fried rice or noodles. Can the same herbs be used for fried rice and noodles? There is a difference, but in general you can use fried rice and noodles together. They are both Eastern dishes with often the same ingredients.
However, if you still want to have nasi herbs, read our blog about nasi herbs. Nasi noodles, however, are almost the same.
