It all starts with the artichoke you buy. A good, fresh artichoke will have dense scales. The leaves should be close together and the color should be a fresh green.
In addition, the leaves should be thick and fleshy, these are the tastiest. If the leaves are open, the artichoke is no longer fresh.
At home, you can put the artichoke with the trunk in a glass of water. It is, after all, a plant. Cut off a piece of the trunk before you put it in water.
The common way to prepare artichoke is through cooking. Cooking artichokes take some time and many actions have to be done before you can serve the artichokes. The first thing to do is to clean the artichoke. After that, the artichoke is cooked and then we need to peel the artichoke.

The leaves are peeled after cooking, the hay can be removed with a spoon so that only the bottom remains.
Before you cook an artichoke, you must first clean it. Cleaning consists of removing the hard outside, the hard leaves. You can simply pull these hard leaves off and throw them away. If you can’t pull them off, cut or cut them away.
Also, remove the long stem. This is not necessary but it is convenient when cooking your artichoke.

It doesn’t matter how you put the artichokes in the pan. One says with the leaves up and the other says with the leaves down. However, I didn’t notice any difference when cooking.
What you can do is put a little lemon juice in the water, this keeps the color nice and green. Otherwise, there is a possibility that it will turn brown. Instead of lemon juice, you can also cook two to three slices of lemon.
You can also put a peeled clove of garlic in the heart of the artichoke. This makes the taste a bit softer. I definitely recommend this if you also use lemon juice. The juice can change the taste slightly and the garlic compensates for this.
Now cook the artichokes for about 40-50 minutes. The cooking time will of course depend on the size of your artichokes. You can check the doneness by pricking the bottom with a knife. the knife should be able to pierce the artichoke without difficulty.
Another way to check if it is cooked is by pulling on the leaves. Remove an artichoke from the pan and pull a leaf. It should release with not too much force and pulling.
If the artichoke is not yet cooked, put it back in the pan and cook a little longer.
Remove the artichokes from the pan, peel the leaves and place them in a bowl. Then remove the hay with a spoon and put the remaining soil on a dish and cut it into pieces.

In addition to cooking and cleaning the artichoke, you can also steam and clean the artichoke. Steaming is a great way to prepare an artichoke. Clean the artichokes as described above.
Brush the outside of the artichokes with lemon juice and place the artichokes in the steamer and then partially cover the pan. Steaming artichokes takes about 50 minutes, depending on the size of the artichokes.
You can feel if the artichokes are al dente by pulling on the leaves. Release them without much force and the artichoke is ready to be eaten.
