More common in school-age children

14 out of 100 children have permanent or temporary hearing loss

Stating that permanent or temporary hearing loss in one or both ears affects more than 14 percent of school-age children, Opr. Dr. Karadavut said, “Even in unilateral hearing loss, the rate of class repetition is reported as 37 percent. Hearing loss increases the difficulties in attention, learning and social functions. If the necessary medical and educational support is not provided, the prevalence of hearing loss in children negatively affects school success and causes significant economic losses. As a result, hearing loss in school-age children should not be neglected and the nearest specialist should be consulted.”
