How to remove greasy stains from jeans

Jeans are one of the most versatile items of clothing. They are worn to the office and to a party, for a walk and to a formal dinner. Naturally, such clothes often get stained with various dirt, including food stains. There are several ways to remove a greasy stain from jeans.

How to remove greasy stains from jeans

Grease has the unpleasant property of penetrating deep into the fabric fibers. Therefore, the longer the greasy stain remains on the trousers, the more difficult it is to remove. To get rid of the unsightly oil stain on your favorite clothes, you need to do one of the following:

  1. Fold a cotton napkin or handkerchief into several layers and press firmly onto the stain on your jeans. When the paper or cloth has absorbed the oil, repeat the procedure.
  2. Sprinkle the stain generously with salt, put a cloth or paper napkin on top. After a few minutes, shake off the salt that has absorbed the grease and, if necessary, cover the stain with fresh salt. You can use soda, tooth or mustard powder, or crushed chalk as an adsorbent.

These manipulations are unlikely to help remove grease from denim fabric completely, but they will make the stain noticeably smaller and paler. In addition, such “first aid” for jeans can really be provided outside the home.

Removing fresh stains

If the oil stain has formed recently, you can deal with it at home in various ways.

Mechanical (without the use of cleaning agents)

The mechanical method is one of the simplest and most accessible. You need to act like this:

  1. The jeans are removed, turned inside out and placed on an ironing board.
  2. The sebaceous formation is covered with a folded sheet of paper (towel, newspaper) from the front and back sides. To enhance the effect, you can sprinkle tooth powder, starch, talc or crushed chalk under it.
  3. The iron is heated to medium temperature and the sole is carefully moved along the top sheet. When the paper is soaked with oil, it is changed.

Chemical (industrial products)

You can remove a fresh greasy stain on jeans using industrial household chemicals. Several categories of detergents are suitable for this purpose:

Universal stain removers of different types:

  • Powder and liquid, for example: Sarma Active 5 in 1, Astonish OXY PLUS, Vanish OXI Action. First, they are added to the soaking basin, and then to the machine along with the washing powder.
  • Oxygen stain remover pencils, such as: Faberlic (Edelstar), Meine Liebe. The oil stain on the jeans is moistened and then rubbed with the cleaner. After 10 minutes, the product is washed off and the result is assessed. If the stain cannot be completely removed, the process is repeated (up to 3 times).
  • Dry aerosol Amvay PreWash Spray. It is sprayed on the dirty area and, without rinsing, left on it until the moment of washing.
  • Antipyatin soap. Used to remove stains, including oil stains, during soaking and hand washing.

When buying a stain remover, make sure it is suitable for colored fabrics. In addition, powder and liquid products should work in warm water, since denim, especially natural, tends to fade and shrink, so hot water is contraindicated for it.

Folk recipes

Household detergents and cleaning products will help you deal with a greasy stain on denim:

  • Dishwashing gel. The greasy stain is moistened, and then the cleaner is rubbed into it. To achieve the best result, the gel is diluted in half with alcohol (vodka). The composition is left for half an hour.
  • Laundry soap. The bar is moistened with water and the wet cloth is generously soaped. The treated area is covered with a plastic bag so that the soap does not dry out and wait 10-12 hours.
  • To speed up the process, the soaped area is generously sprinkled with granulated sugar and rubbed with a clothes brush. This product should deal with the grease in half an hour.
  • Shampoo (preferably with tar) for oily hair. Rub the product into the fabric and leave for an hour and a half.
  • It is applied to the dirty denim and left for half an hour.

A good alternative to store-bought compounds are folk remedies. They are less aggressive, inexpensive, and cope with fresh stains no worse than industrial analogues. Here are some examples of the most effective cleaners:

  • Black bread. Cut a piece of crumb from a loaf and apply it to the greasy stain, pressing it firmly with your hand. The bread absorbs almost all of the oil.
  • Potato shavings. The peeled tuber is grated on a fine grater. The resulting gruel is applied to the stain from the back side. After half an hour, the remaining shavings are removed with a dry bread crust.
  • Dissolve the tablets in a small amount of hot water. Pour the liquid over the greasy mark. Evaluate the result after 20 minutes.
  • A mixture of ethyl alcohol and table salt. The substances are combined and stirred until a paste forms. It is applied to the stained fabric for 2-3 hours.
  • “Cola”. Carbonated water is poured into a small container and the area of the trousers that requires cleaning is immersed in it for 4 hours. Then rinsed with clean water.

Treated jeans must be washed completely and after drying, evaluate the result. If it does not meet expectations, you should try more powerful substances.

Removing old traces

It is much more difficult to wash out a greasy stain on jeans that have been lying in the laundry basket for several days or weeks. However, nothing is impossible. Before sending the dirty trousers to the washing machine, it is necessary to remove the oily traces embedded in the fabric. To do this, use the following substances and mixtures.

  • Table vinegar. Rub the stain with the liquid and wait until it dries completely.
  • Soap alcohol. Dissolve laundry soap and turpentine in equal parts in ethyl alcohol. Apply the mixture to the greasy stain and leave for about a quarter of an hour.
  • Apply a few drops to the greasy stain or wipe with a sponge soaked in it. Rinse with water, wash in a convenient way (you can pre-wash the area with laundry soap).
  • This pharmaceutical preparation is used in different compositions:

Method No. 1. Mix 5 ml of ammonia with 200 ml of water. Apply the mixture to the stain with a cotton swab and leave until completely dry. For best results, mix the substance with dishwashing gel or laundry soap dissolved in water.

Method #2 . Mix ammonia with water in equal proportions and apply to the dirty surface. Place a white sheet of paper over the treated stain and iron the jeans with a hot iron.

It should be taken into account that the effect of each of the above substances may adversely affect the color of the material. Therefore, before using the cleaner on a contaminated area, it should be tested by applying it to the belt or seam from the inside.

As you can see, there are many products that can deal with an oil stain on jeans. If none of them bring the desired result, you will have to turn on your imagination and disguise the stain with a sticker or embroidery.
