If you don’t have all the herbs at home, you can leave some out here and there. Bay leaves, cloves, sugar, pepper and salt are the basic spices and you can use them in both cooking and stewing red cabbage. Vinegar is to keep the color nice red.  

Red Cabbage Seasoning And Cooking

  • 1 tbsp vinegar 
  • 2 tsp sugar  
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon 
  • Salt and pepper to your liking

The sliced ​​red cabbage goes into a pan with 2 mugs of water. The red cabbage should have a little water, no more. 

Add 1 tbsp vinegar so that the cabbage retains a nice red color. Otherwise it will be a bit pink. Turn on the heat and let the red cabbage cook. Then lower it a bit but let it boil gently.  

The sugar, bay leaf, cloves and cinnamon can all be added to the pan and must be mixed well with the cabbage. Stir well so that everything is well mixed.

The lid goes on the pan and occasionally stir and taste what you think. You may want to add salt and pepper, or even more cinnamon or sugar. Taste and invent your own ratio. After about 20 minutes, the cabbage is done. Remove the bay leaves and cloves from the red cabbage. You can’t eat that. 

If you want to cook cubes of apple, put them in the pan together with the cabbage.

Red Cabbage Herbs And Stews

  • Salt and pepper 
  • 3 full tbsp raisins 
  • 2 cloves 
  • 1 bay leaf 
  • juice of 1 orange

Stewing means that the red cabbage is simmering for a while in some liquid. That can be butter, water, gravy or as in this case orange juice. 

Put a little butter in the frying pan and add the red cabbage. Then all the other herbs and seasonings go through. Now stir and put the lid on the pan to stew (simmer) for about 30 minutes. Set the heat source to low to avoid burning.

Stir occasionally and taste if all the seasonings are enough, otherwise you can add more herbs.  

If you want to add apples and raisins, do this together with the red cabbage in the pan.

 

 Red Cabbage Seasoning And In The Oven.

  • Red cabbage
  • 4 tbsp balsamic vinegar 
  • 2 tsp dried thyme 
  • Pinch Salt and pepper 
  • Olive oil 
  • 1 garlic clove 

You can add sliced ​​red cabbage strips to this dish or use red cabbage slices. Do not cut the red cabbage too thick and do not remove the core. Fun for a party! 

Press the garlic in half a cup of oil and stir well. When you have sliced ​​red cabbage, stir in the oil and garlic.   

Then place the red cabbage on the baking tray with baking paper and spread it out. When you have slices of red cabbage, place them on the baking tray with baking paper and brush the slices with the oil and garlic.  

Then drizzle balsamic vinegar over it. Sprinkle some thyme on the red cabbage with salt and pepper as desired. After 45 minutes, the cabbage is cooked. Make sure that the cabbage does not burn because then the temperature of the oven has to be lowered.

Red Cabbage Seasoning And Stir-frying

  • 4 tablespoons of soy sauce 
  • zest of 1 orange 
  • Salt and pepper 
  • 1 cm ginger grater 

Sometimes it’s not just spices that create flavor. Above are a number of other seasonings and spices that ensure that the red cabbage flavor is picked up.  

 Heat the oil in a wok and stir-fry the red cabbage and apple, add the grated ginger. Stir and add the soy sauce. Add the zest of the orange and season with salt and pepper.  

Stir until red cabbage is cooked. Taste if the taste is good, otherwise add what you miss.
