Why do many foreigners hang their pants upside down?

Instead of drying clothes upside down as is the habit of Vietnamese people, in many countries, people often hang their clothes upside down when drying, with the waistband facing down.

If there is no dryer, after washing clothes, they must be exposed to light to dry quickly so that they are fragrant and free of bacteria and mold. There are some differences in clothes drying habits around the world.

Why do many foreigners hang their pants upside down?

The habit of most Vietnamese people is to hang clothes on hangers to dry from top to bottom, which is the same as the way we wear them. Meanwhile, people in many countries have the habit of hanging items upside down when drying certain types of clothes, especially jeans, khaki pants, T-shirts, with the waistband and hem facing down.

Why do many foreigners hang their pants upside down and what are the advantages of this method? This “paradoxical” drying method helps items to leak water quickly and dry faster. This method of drying requires the use of clips to attach the clothes to the wire – the drying rack, so the item is fixed in one position, without fear of flying away in case of strong winds.

Another reason why many foreigners dry clothes upside down is that with clips on this line, the clothes are spread evenly, not pushed together like drying with hangers, the clothes are spread out. should dry faster.

Should clothes be turned inside out when drying?

Many people have the habit of turning clothes inside out when drying them to dry quickly, but in reality this habit also has disadvantages. The wrong side of clothes comes into direct contact with our skin when worn. If you turn it inside out to dry, the inside is very susceptible to bacteria and dirt, which can cause allergies and itching for the wearer.

In addition, during the season of bugs and insects breeding or families raising dogs and cats during the shedding season, insects and animal hair can easily stick to the back of clothes, causing harm to the skin, especially for children. .

Therefore, you should not turn your clothes inside out when drying. Just dry them in a cool, dry place to keep them clean, fragrant, and safer for your skin.

However, if your clothes are made from some special materials such as silk, cashmere, wool, lighter-colored cotton, and denim that easily fades, then after washing, you should turn it inside out to dry. Hot weather and high temperatures will cause clothes made from these materials to quickly fade.

Note, you should not dry clothes in the sun for too long to avoid the fabric fading quickly. Before bringing clothes into the house, you should rinse them 1-2 times to remove dust before storing.

How to dry clothes quickly

If you want your clothes to dry quickly, you should apply the following methods:

  • Wring out the water before drying:  If you wash clothes by hand, you should shake off the water and wring them dry before hanging them out to dry.
  • Do not dry clothes on top of each other or dry them too thick because it will cause the clothes to not dry evenly, become damp, and easily generate bacteria and fungi, affecting skin health.
  • Dry clothes in a cool, dry place, but do not expose them to sunlight for too long because it can easily cause the clothes to fade.
  • Do not dry in the kitchen or bathroom because your clothes will be difficult to dry and will also cause odors.
