How to Freeze Leeks

Leek does not have a pronounced taste. It tends to have an onion flavor. This is because he is related to the look. There are various options for seasoning leeks. You can read what those are below.

Do you want to know exactly how to prepare leeks? Then read our blog ‘ How to prepare leeks? ‘.

Leek Cooking and Herbs

  • pinch of salt
  • pinch of pepper
  • 1 tsp Nutmeg
  • 100 ml broth

If you don’t have nutmeg, only salt and pepper will suffice. You can also cook the leek without a stock cube in water with salt, if you don’t have it at home.

Leek strips, which have been finely chopped and cleaned, go into a pan of boiling broth. After cooking for about 10 minutes, the leek is drained. Add 1 teaspoon of nutmeg and a pinch of pepper.

Stir this well. If desired, you can add a piece of vegetable margarine to the leek. Stir everything well and serve. Tastes fantastic!

Leek Stew and Herbs

Which herbs go well with stewing leeks?

  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • salt
  • Pepper
  • 100 ml broth

If you don’t have a bay leaf, just leave it out. If you don’t have thyme, rosemary can be a solution or just salt and pepper.

Add strips of leek to a frying pan that is hot and has a little vegetable butter in it. Fry the leek for a minute or 2 and then add some stock.

Now you can add the herbs, 1 bay leaf, 1 teaspoon thyme and salt and pepper to the leek and let it simmer on a low heat source. The flavors are now well absorbed.

Leave the lid slightly skewed on the pan so that the lid does not flap, but the moisture remains in the pan. Keep stirring the leek every now and then. After about 15 minutes, the leek is stewed and the herbs have withdrawn. Enjoy your meal!

Leek Braising And Herbs

Which herbs go well with leek braising?

  • 1 garlic clove or 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 3 tbsp vegetable butter
  • 1 tsp Oregano (or thyme or nutmeg after baking)

If you don’t have a garlic clove, you can also omit it. If you don’t have oregano, you can add thyme and bake. Or sprinkle some nutmeg over the leek after baking.

Sprinkle nutmeg in moderation otherwise it will quickly become too much. Do not use all at once unless directed.

Add strips of leek to a frying pan with some hot vegetable butter. Stir this well. Add 1 crushed garlic clove and let it fry for 1 minute. Now the oregano can be added.

Stir well so that all the spices are evenly distributed. Simmer gently until the leeks are tender (about 10 to 15 minutes) and the herbs are well incorporated. Stir occasionally.

Leek In The Oven With Herbs

Which herbs go well with leeks in the oven?

  • Pepper and salt
  • 1 sprig Thyme or rosemary or 1 tsp dried herbs
  • 100 ml or half a glass of vegetable stock
  • Vegetable cheese of your choice

If you don’t have certain herbs, you can leave them out. For example, if you don’t have vegetable stock, this will be water with some salt.

If you don’t have salt, I would definitely cook in broth that is a bit spicier than the amount indicated on the package. Or crumble half a vegetable or garden herb stock cube over the leek and stir it in. Try it out I would say.

Turn on the oven at 180 degrees. Leeks that have been washed and cut into thick strips are placed in a baking dish. Add 100 ml vegetable stock.

Place a few small sprigs of thyme or rosemary between the leeks. It just depends on which herbs you like. If you don’t have fresh sprigs, use a teaspoon of the dried rosemary or thyme. Then sprinkle this over the leek.

Season the leek with a pinch of salt and pepper and grate over some vegetable cheese (‘Parmesan’ is nice and spicy from Violife).

Place the baking dish in the middle of the oven and after half an hour to 45 minutes, you can check whether the leek is cooked. Tasty!

Leek Stir-Fry With Herbs

Herbs are very tasty with leeks, but not only herbs make the man. Other seasonings can also help vegetables, such as leeks, in their taste. Mustard, cream and apple are also protagonists in this dish.

Which herbs or seasonings go well with fried leeks?

  • Apple
  • chives
  • Mustard
  • Garlic
  • soy cream

If you don’t have chives, leave them out. If you don’t have soy cream, just add a little soft mustard. It is not the case that everything must always be used. You can also enjoy leeks without apples. It just becomes a different dish. Try it!

The finely chopped or pressed garlic cloves are fried in a frying pan with some oil (1 minute). Add the leek and toss the garlic well through the leek. Fry the leek for about 3 minutes and keep stirring so that the garlic and leek do not burn.

Now add the soy cream and then the mustard and stir well. Add a pinch of salt and pepper as desired. After all, some people want more herbs than others. Always taste in between to see if herbs and seasonings are enough or if more needs to be added.

Peel an apple and remove the core. Cut the apple into cubes or strips. Add the apple to the leek. Stir-fry briefly and remove from heat. Enjoy your meal!
