Roasting pumpkin: Turn the oven on to 200 degrees. Cut the pumpkin in half and scoop out the seeds. Cut the pumpkin into 4 pieces and peel the pumpkin. Cut the flesh into cubes and place on an oven tray. Place the baking sheet in the center of the oven and roast the pumpkin for about 20 to 25 minutes.
This is the basics of roasting pumpkin. Many questions are always asked about roasting the pumpkin in the oven or airfryer and whether this can be done with or without the skin. Also how to roast pumpkin for the soup is discussed. I will answer them in this blog.
Pumpkin Roasting Oven
Before you start roasting pumpkin, you want to know with which pumpkin you can do this. Then take a quick look at our blog 10 types of pumpkins, then you know what you can do with which pumpkin. If you have already done this, we will continue with roasting the pumpkin in the oven.
Turn on the oven at 200 degrees. You don’t have to wash the pumpkin beforehand because you peel it anyway. Just cut the pumpkin in half and spoon out the seeds and thick threads that the seeds are attached to. That’s a bit of a chore. Then cut the pumpkin into strips and peel them evenly. You can cut the bars into cubes, the larger the cubes, the longer the oven time. If you have pumpkin slices, they can be in the oven for about 30 to 40 minutes, if you have cubes, it can be good in 20 minutes. If you are going to make soup, I would definitely do cubes, that will roast faster.
Take some olive oil and add the spices to it. Stir in the pumpkin cubes or season the pumpkin cubes with loose herbs that you have in the recipe. You can look here in our blog to get inspiration when you want something different or don’t know it well. Place baking paper on the oven tray and place on top of the spiced pumpkin cubes or slices. Drizzle over the oil if you haven’t used it yet. Place the baking tray in the middle of the oven and see for yourself how long you want to put the pumpkin in the oven (check how they look after 20 minutes).
Roasting Pumpkin For Soup
When roasting pumpkin for soup, the preparation is the same as roasting the pumpkin in general. Cut the pumpkin in half and scoop out the seeds and strings attached to it. Sometimes you have to wriggle to get this out. Then cut the pumpkin in half again (now you have 4 pieces) and peel the pumpkin. Cut the flesh into 2 cm cubes and season as desired.
If you are going to roast pumpkins for the soup, you can also roast other vegetables and herbs. For example: garlic, rosemary and thyme. There are many options for seasoning pumpkins for soup. If you want to know which herbs go well with pumpkin soup , you can find this on our blog.
Roast the cubes for about 20 to 30 minutes, depending on the size of your cut cubes, and add it to the stock. Puree the soup wonderfully soft.
Roasting Pumpkin In The Oven With Peel
There are several pumpkins that can go in the oven with skin. The Hoaido, the butternut and the mini pattison pumpkin for example. Check the recipe carefully to see if you can actually put the skin in the oven. There are also real pumpkins whose skins are inedible or tough and not ‘edible’, to say the least.
Clean the pumpkin by cutting it in half and removing the seeds. You can then cut the pumpkin in half again without peeling the pumpkin. Drizzle the pumpkin with oil and herbs, here are examples of delicious combinations, in our blog. Place the pumpkin on the baking sheet and in the center of the oven. After about 25 minutes, the pumpkin will be cooked in the oven with its skin on. See for yourself whether you agree or if you want to roast the pumpkin further in the oven with the skin on.
Roasting Pumpkin In Airfryer
Cut the pumpkin in half and spoon out the seeds (you can also roast these, read our blog here ). Cut the pumpkin into cubes, with skin if you can eat it, depending on the type of pumpkin.
Make a mixture of herbs and oil and spoon the pumpkin over it. Turn on the airfryer at 200 degrees and let the pumpkin bake in it for 10 minutes. After 5 minutes, flip the pumpkin cubes. The pumpkin cubes are delicious in soup or delicious with fried mushrooms (can also be used together in the airfryer).
Roasting Butternut Pumpkin
You can roast the butternut squash when it is diced, sliced, or cut in half. If you leave the skin on, you wash the butternut, also called butternut squash, or you buy an organic one, there is no poison on it. In this case, we cut the pumpkin in half, top to bottom, and spoon out the seeds. You put herbs of fresh rosemary or thyme (or both) on the pumpkin with some oil on top (or you mix dry herbs with oil and you do this over it) and you roast the whole thing for 45 minutes.
If you want to use other herbs, this is also possible. Prick whether the butternut is really soft with a skewer, because it depends of course on the size of the pumpkin whether it is already cooked. You can now fill the butternut with all kinds of tasty things such as arugula, walnuts or blue cheese.
If you want to roast the seeds of the butternut or another pumpkin (because it would be a shame to throw them away and they are very tasty), you can read this in our blog Roasting pumpkin seeds .
As you have read, pumpkins can be used for many dishes when they are roasted. Enjoy the versatile pumpkin and roast it!
