Biorefineries make carrots have many other uses

How to store carrots until the next harvest so that they:

  • did not sprout;
  • did not rot;
  • remained juicy;
  • hasn’t lost its taste?

Store carrots for up to a month at room temperature and in the refrigerator. In winter, in a heated apartment, carrots will dry quickly, so it is better to store them in the refrigerator. If there are a lot of carrots, take them to the balcony in winter – they will stay there for up to 2 months.

How to store carrots

  • In bulk, in cellars and basements. Grandma’s way, but it works. The main thing is that the cellar should not freeze in winter, damp, and so on. However, there are more effective ways.
  • Sand storage. Quite a laborious way, but the carrots are really great for keeping. It is necessary to sprinkle the sand in a layer of up to 3 cm. Lay the carrots on top so that the roots do not touch. And on top again cover with sand with a layer of up to 1.5 cm. And so in layers, up to a height of 0.75 m. An interesting way)).
  • In boxes and baskets. Much easier, it would seem. But do not rush to think so. It is necessary to thoroughly clean the roots of the soil and cover with a thin layer of clay or hydrated lime. This is, of course, not necessary, but desirable. Each carrot is dipped in a solution of clay or lime, diluted to the consistency of sour cream. For example, for 10 liters of water you need 1 kg of lime. Then the excess solution should drain from the root crops, after which they are dried for 1-2 days in a well-ventilated room. Such a film will perfectly protect carrots from rot and wilting, even if you put them in a deaf large box.
  • In plastic bags of 30-35 kg. Yes, they even store it like that. The main thing is that the bag cannot be tied, otherwise the planned losses instead of 3-5% will be 100% within 15 days. In the open bag, however, suitable moisture is maintained. In addition, when breathing, carrots will emit carbon dioxide, which perfectly protects against the development of diseases. In general, a valid way. In the storage, the bags are placed tightly to each other. However, this option is more suitable for industrial storage, let’s say.
  • In peat and other filters that absorb moisture well

How to store carrots

Fresh carrots – 2 months
It is important not to leave the carrots in the bag, but pour them into a box with an open top, but rather into a plastic or wooden mesh box designed for transporting vegetables and fruits – this is done so that the moist air does not stagnate, but has the ability to circulate by. Over time, carrots will begin to lose moisture, soften and shrink, so large carrots will last longer, which means it will be the right decision to use small and damaged vegetables for cooking in the first place.

Fresh carrots can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 months if each carrot is wrapped in a newspaper to prevent rapid moisture loss.

Washed, unpeeled carrots, in or without the refrigerator, will last as long as uncleaned carrots if they are wiped dry with a towel after washing.

Which carrots are best stored

Carrots should be large, with cut greens (the root crop itself should not be touched), without cracks, even red in color, previously peeled from the ground with a skin. Small carrots will dry out quickly, and dirty ones will begin to grow moldy.

If you have a lot of small carrots, or with cracks, it is best to dry them: peel, grate and put in an electric dryer. Then store it in banks for up to several months. If space in the freezer allows it, chopped or grated carrots can be conveniently arranged in packing bags and stored in it.

Chopped carrots – 1 week
Diced or grated carrots will last in the refrigerator for up to a week if covered with cling film, but it is best to freeze the slices – such a blank will be stored quietly for a couple of months.

Peeled – 1-2 weeks
Peeled carrots can be stored at room temperature for up to two days, flooded with water so that they do not dry out. If your refrigerator keeps a low temperature well, then carrots flooded with water will remain in it from up to 2 weeks.

How to store boiled carrots

Boiled carrots – 7 days
Carrots boiled in their uniform should not be stored at room temperature for more than 2 days – they will begin to lose moisture, becoming covered with mucus.

In the refrigerator, boiled carrots can be stored for no more than a week if you put them in a tightly closed container and lay a few napkins on the bottom. Napkins will need to be changed every day or at least once every 2 days.
