How To Season Pizza
How To Season Pizza

How do you season a pizza? That is of course the question. Do you want to season your pizza in the ‘normal’ way or just a little bit different? I list the herbs in this blog and choose what you like. You can really make the pizza a party a la your style. You usually start with a tomato sauce on the bottom of the pizza. Place this homemade pizza tomato sauce or pizza sauce that you have purchased on the pizza, after which you cover the pizza with vegetables, fruit and herbs. If you have made tomato sauce for the pizza yourself, you can season it with Italian herbs, for example, because otherwise the sauce tastes a bit flat.

There will still be a number of questions about the seasoning and topping of pizza:

  • Do you want spicy pizza, with fresh herbs or dried ones?
  • Do you want pizza with cheese or meat substitutes or meat?
  • What vegetables or other seasonings do you put on the pizza?

Herbs are important to just finish the pizza and to be able to enjoy it twice as much. If you want to make your own tomato sauce, you can find it in our blog ‘How to make tomato sauce’.

Below are the herbs that you can use and further on are combinations of herbs that I really like and that others also like.

Pizza Seasoning You Can Do With:

  • Italian spice mix
  • Oregano
  • Basil
  • salt
  • smoked paprika (a little bit)
  • Pepper (black, white, red or green)
  • onion powder
  • Lovage (maggi plant)
  • Garlic (spice) fresh or garlic powder
  • Parsley
  • Curry
  • Chicken seasoning (on your chicken pieces)
  • Thyme
  • rosemary and
  • arugula
  • shawarma spices

You can go a long way with dried herbs. If you want fresh herbs on your pizza, you have to wash it. Then pick or zip the leaves from the twigs. Soft herbs are best mixed with the tomato sauce when they have been finely chopped. Thyme, a hard herb, can be sprinkled between the vegetables. Be careful not to overdo it as it can overpower.

You can also stir garlic into the tomato sauce before placing it on the pizza base. When the tomato sauce comes from a jar, it usually has some garlic in it. Read the ingredients list and try it. If you think there is too little garlic in it, you can always add it.
