Peach blossoms have a short flowering time, in early spring, so this is an ornamental plant mainly used for Tet, and then often thrown away. However, if you know how to plant a peach tree after Tet, you can keep it and take care of it so that it blooms the following Tet, helping to save costs.

How to plant peach trees after Tet

The technique of replanting peaches after the Lunar New Year is not too difficult, but taking care of the tree requires meticulousness and thoroughness.

Prepare soil for planting

Peach is a plant that cannot tolerate waterlogging, so it is necessary to choose dry, well-drained land, make the soil loose, build a bed about 25-30cm high, 70cm wide, and create trenches for good drainage.

Before planting peaches, you can use root growth preparations mixed with clean water according to the instructions on the package, and moisten the bulbs about 10-15 days before planting. These preparations promote the plant to grow new roots, so the ability to survive is higher.

A note about planting peach trees after Tet is that after planting peach trees, you can leave the tree in the old pot but you should replace the new soil mixture in the pot with a ratio of 3-4 parts soil mixed with 1 part organic fertilizer.

Cut and repair branches

After planting peaches, you cut the branches right away for the first time. This time it is necessary to cut very painfully so that many new branches will grow, and next year there will be many flowers. If you don’t cut back and leave the branches old, next year the flowers will only be on the outside of the branch buds.

After that, each month you have to cut lightly a few times until the 6th lunar month. During the pruning process, it is necessary to combine canopy shaping.

Fertilize

To plant peach trees after Tet, you need to fertilize about 3-5kg of organic fertilizer, depending on the size of the tree. Fertilizer should be applied from 20 days after planting to September every year.

Fertilize at a distance of 30-50cm from the base according to the projection of the tree canopy. Water the peaches sufficiently during the fertilization period so that the tree can absorb the fertilizer well and grow well.

Tree brakes

Stopping the plant helps limit growth and force the plant to transition to the flowering stage.

Use a very sharp knife to cut around a circle to cut the bark through the phloem layer into the wood near the tree’s neck. After fermenting for a week, peach leaves slightly change color from dark green to light green and droop slightly. If the leaves still haven’t moved, it’s not done yet, you need to stop it by making another round on the old mark. If it still doesn’t work, you have to brake a third time.

The braking period starts from the middle to the end of the 8th lunar month. You should brake first on healthy plants with all good green leaves. Weak plants with part of the leaves turning yellow should be braked later. Do not brake old trees.

Pluck leaves

Peach is a tree that loses its leaves every year in winter. After the leaves fall, the flower buds develop and grow quickly. If left naturally, the peach leaves will drop at the end of December and the flowers will bloom at the end of January or February of the next year. Therefore, if you want peaches to bloom beautifully during Tet, in addition to stopping the tree mentioned above, you must pluck the leaves a while in advance. That time is long or short depending on the variety, health and age of the tree.

People usually pluck leaves from the 5th to 20th of the 11th lunar month, and white peach leaves are plucked from the 5th to the 15th of the 10th lunar month. Old, weak trees have slower leaf plucking time than strong, healthy trees.

It is necessary to protect the flower eyes at the end of the leaf axils. You should pluck individual leaves instead of plucking them straight from the bud, damaging the flower buds.

Promotes and slows flowering time

Even if you plant peach trees correctly after Tet as instructed above, peaches may still not bloom during Tet. If it’s cold, the flowers will bloom slowly. On the contrary, in warm weather, flowers will appear earlier. Therefore, the issue of propulsion and braking must be done flexibly depending on the situation.

Boosting: At the beginning of the 12th lunar month, if you see that the flower buds have not clearly sprouted, signaling that the flowers will bloom slowly, you need to boost them by watering with nitrogen sulfate nitrate or urea fertilizer. Dig around the base to a depth of 5cm, water with manure and urine; water with hot water 35 degrees -40 degrees Celsius.

Suppression: In the last week of the 11th lunar month, if you see large flower buds that may flower early, you need to apply suppression measures including shading the plant from sunlight, creating darkness for the plant all day for 10-15 days, and just shading. just monitor the weather and trees.

Be careful not to water or disturb. Use a knife to cut a circle around the body as mentioned above. Dig the soil, cut off the roots, use a spade to trim 10-20% of the roots.

Pushing and braking should only be done when absolutely necessary because both cases affect the quality of the flower.

Pest prevention

If peaches are infected with red spider mites, causing yellowing or leaf loss, you can alternately use Regent 800WG, Sokupi… If the tree shows signs of root collar erosion or leaf spots, you need to use Anvil 10EC hat Penac P. If the tree has aphids Wax causes damage, you can use Supracide to eliminate it.

Create canopy, create posture

Creating canopy and position needs to be carried out continuously every 5-7 days. You bend and tie young branches together or create frames in predetermined positions, prune and remove unwanted branches; Or combine carving scales on the trunk to create an ancient look for the peach tree
