How to Freeze Pasta?

Fresh pasta can be frozen and stored for 3 months. Preferably cook briefly (al dente) first. You can also freeze cooked pasta, it will keep for 3 months. Pasta sauce also keeps well for 3 months. A pasta dish such as pasta pesto also stays good for 3 months.

With pasta you can make delicious dishes such as ‘Italian Style’, with pesto or simply your own creation. The pasta itself has a neutral taste. It is precisely the sauce that gives flavor to the dish and you can vary it endlessly. In this blog we are going to freeze pasta.

Can You Freeze Pasta?

When we talk about pasta, it can be the pure pasta, the pasta or it can be a dish, the pasta with a sauce. Both are popularly referred to as pasta in Dutch.

Freeze Cooked Pasta

The cooked pasta, without sauce, can be frozen. Leave the cooked pasta you want to cool on a plate. Once cooled, you can pack the pasta in portions and put it in a freezer container or freezer bag. Put the date on the lid and place it in the freezer. You can now keep it for 3 months. It does lose flavor and texture because the pasta is already cooked all the way through.

Freeze Pasta Sauce

In the Netherlands, the pasta sauce is often made with ready-made bags of vegetables that are stir-fried in the frying pan and to which a sauce is added. You can also freeze this pasta sauce.

The sauce has the advantage that it is already cooked. What you need to do is let the sauce cool on the kitchen counter. Then portion the pasta sauce into freezer containers, place the date on the containers and place them in the freezer. You can keep it like this for 3 months.

Freeze Pasta Pesto
