Green Beans Cleaning

Before you start cooking and further processing vegetables, the vegetables must first be cleaned. It’s the same with green beans.

Place the green beans on the cutting board and cut off the head and butt. When you do this, sometimes a ‘thread’ comes loose. Also remove this thread with a knife.

Place the green beans in a colander and rinse well with cold water. Toss the green beans through the colander.

The green beans are now ready for further cooking. Sometimes the green beans are broken or cut in half. This is possible, but it is not necessary.

Cooking green beans

Most green beans are cooked. Other preparation methods are discussed further in this article, but we will start with cooking. Cut and wash the green beans as described above.

Place a pan with plenty of water on the heat source and bring the water to a boil. When the water boils, the green beans are placed in the pan. It is not necessary to add salt. Salt makes the skin a little tougher.

Now cook the green beans until al dente in 12 minutes and 15 minutes for softer green beans.

Remove the pan from the heat and drain the green beans. Put the green beans on the dish and they are ready to serve. It used to be the custom to add a knob of vegetable butter and nutmeg for more flavour, small tomato and fried garlic is also tasty. Enjoy your meal.

Frozen Green Beans Cooking

When you have frozen fresh green beans, you can cook the green beans just fine. It is important that you do not let the green beans thaw.

Place a pan of water on the heat source and bring it to a boil. When it boils, remove the green beans from the freezer and immediately throw them into the pan of boiling water. Bring the water to a boil again and wait about 8 minutes. The green beans are now al dente. Cook for 10 minutes and the green beans are soft.

You can also use the microwave for this. Place a microwave-safe bowl with a lid and a layer of water in the microwave. Add the thawed green beans. Now cook the green beans for 10 minutes at 700 watts. Remove the green beans from the microwave, add some spices such as nutmeg and it is ready to serve.

Steam green beans

You can also steam all vegetables that you can cook, including green beans.

Wash and peel the green beans as described above.

Place a large pan on the heat source and fill the pan with a layer of water. Place the steamer basket in the pan and make sure that the water is under the steamer basket. Now bring the water to a boil. When the water boils, put the green beans in the steamer basket and then put the lid on the pan. Now wait 12 minutes for cooked green beans and 15 minutes for cooked green beans. Remove the basket from the pan and place the green beans on a platter. Just add some spices and it’s ready to eat.

Baking green beans

Green beans can also be fried in a frying pan. Again first cut and wash the green beans as described above.

Place a pan filled with water on the heat source and bring to a boil. Now add the green beans and let it cook for 15 minutes. Remove the pan from the heat and drain the green beans in a colander.

Now put the frying pan on the heat source and let the vegetable butter melt. To give your dish more flavor, first fry two cloves of garlic for 1 minute, after which the green beans are added. Bake the whole thing for about 6 minutes. Remove the frying pan from the heat and serve the green beans on a platter. This dish is delicious with rice, for example.

Green Beans Wok

You can combine endlessly with woks. Green beans are also delicious for stir-frying. You can do whatever you like with it. But first cut and wash the green beans as described above.

Place a pan of water on the heat source and bring the water to a boil. When it boils, add the green beans and wait 8 minutes. Now drain the green beans in a colander.

Now cut an onion into rings and place a frying pan on the heat source. Then put vegetable butter in the pan and let it melt. When it has melted, the onions go into the pan first. Bake this for 5 minutes. Then add the green beans and stir fry for another 5 minutes. Now keep stirring the pan. Finally, add sambal, soy sauce or ketjap. Remove the pan from the heat and serve in a bowl.

Green Beans from the Oven

The last way to cook green beans is in the oven. When the oven is used to make green beans, they are usually part of a larger casserole dish. There are plenty of recipes for this on the internet. However, green beans can also be prepared in the oven as a main vegetable.

First wash and cut the green beans as described above.

Place a pan with water on the heat source and cook the green beans for 8 minutes until al dente. Drain the green beans in a colander.

Now preheat the oven to 180 degrees and take an oven dish to put the green beans in. First, however, go in a few crushed garlic cloves in the baking dish and possibly a few cherry tomatoes. Then place the green beans in the baking dish. Place the dish on the baking tray and bake for about 20 minutes.

Remove the dish from the oven and it can be served immediately on a plate.

Green Beans Raw Food

The green bean is a vegetable that you can not eat raw. Green beans contain the toxic substance lectin, which is an antibody of the plant. It is in fact a poisonous substance to keep small pests away from the plant.

The substance disappears when the green beans are heated, so the beans are no longer toxic.
