Grilling Green Asparagus – In Pan, Oven Or BBQ!

What could be better than grilling green asparagus. In the grill pan, on the bbq or in the oven under the grill. There are some things you should do before grilling the asparagus and some things you shouldn’t do.
Wash the green asparagus and add it to boiling water. Boil the asparagus for 5 minutes and remove them from the boiling water. Let them drain and dry them. Brush some oil over the asparagus and place them in the hot grill pan. Now you can grill the asparagus for 4 minutes. Serve the asparagus with a sauce for example or simply with salt and pepper.
What should you pay attention to when grilling asparagus? Do you peel them, cut off the bottom or do you pre-cook them. Or not at all. Below you will find the answer.
Boil green asparagus first then grill
Preparing green asparagus for grilling is not that difficult, but you have to know it. First you wash the asparagus. You don’t have to peel because the skin is not stringy like with a white asparagus. You can cut off the butt if it looks a bit dried out, but if it still looks crispy fresh, you can also just leave it on.
Put on a pan of water that will fit the green asparagus for cooking. Because that’s what you’re going to do. You first cook the green asparagus in order to cook the asparagus a bit and kill bacteria that are on the asparagus.
Place the asparagus in the pan of boiling water and cook for 5 minutes. Scoop them out of the water with a slotted spoon or carefully drain them into a colander. Drain the asparagus and dry with kitchen paper or a clean tea towel. Now you can grill the asparagus.

Now brush some olive oil over the asparagus and place them in a hot grill pan on the fire. Grill for 4 minutes and make nice grill marks on the asparagus by not moving them constantly back and forth but turning them a few times. Be careful not to go too fast, so stick with it.
Once cooked, you can serve the green asparagus with some salt and pepper or a little balsamic cream or balsamic vinegar. Just what you like. The vinegar is a bit sour and the cream is a bit sweeter. I think they are both a present!
Grilling green asparagus in the oven
Green asparagus can be grilled wonderfully in the oven. Wash the green asparagus and cut off the ends when they look dry and hard. Place the asparagus in an oven dish or on the oven tray covered with baking paper. Drizzle over some olive oil or brush some olive oil over each asparagus.
Salt and pepper provide some extra spice and you can sprinkle it over the green asparagus for grilling. Optionally, you can sprinkle some cheese on top or add other vegetables such as onions. Set the grill to 220 degrees and let it get hot. Now the asparagus can go in and let it cook for about 20 minutes. Check halfway through to make sure it’s not too fast. Turn the oven down a bit.
Green Asparagus Grilling BBQ
If you want to grill asparagus on the BBQ, it is useful to remove the dried out piece from the bottom of the asparagus when you find it necessary. It’s not really necessary. Wash the asparagus, dry them well and brush them with a nice oil.
When the BBW is very hot, you can place the asparagus in a special grill tray and place it on the BBQ. The asparagus will fall between the grid in the coals when you place it like that. In the meantime you can season the asparagus with some salt and pepper or sprinkle with some Parmesan. You can also grill half a lemon and squeeze the juice over the asparagus when they are cooked. By the way, that only takes a few minutes when the BBQ is really hot.
